We Live in Time

We Live In Time Keyart with Florence Pugh and Andrew Garflied

Full Review

“I can’t bare the thought of being forgotten” – We Live In Time takes a non-linear approach to storytelling, and while it’s ambitious, it doesn’t entirely stick the landing. At first, I was genuinely confused, wondering if the movie had started in the middle. You feel a bit like Lilia Calderu from Agatha All Along, jumping between moments. Thankfully, Florence Pugh’s character, Almut, changes her hairstyle often enough to help you keep track of where (and when) you are in the timeline.

The film follows Almut (Florence Pugh) and her partner (Andrew Garfield) as they navigate their relationship, which is filled with challenges. The overarching message – that time is fleeting and you should seize it while you can – is a powerful one.

Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield are, without a doubt, the movie’s saving grace. Both deliver stellar performances, pouring their talent and energy into every scene. Their chemistry makes the relationship feel authentic, and their emotional range brings depth to a script that could use a for me a little more work. Honestly, for me their acting is one of the reason the film works. Without them, I’m not sure it would have been as watchable.

The script itself leaves things to be desired. While there are some genuinely funny and emotional moments, the film misses the opportunity to fully explore its characters. We’re introduced to Almut and her partner, but we don’t learn enough about them as individuals. Spending more time with each character separately could have added layers to their story and made their relationship more impactful.

Despite its flaws, the movie isn’t without merit. The performances and a handful of touching scenes make it an enjoyable watch, even if it doesn’t quite reach its full potential. Everyone who likes emotional movies, about love and challenges will certainly enjoy this piece as well.
