Story
In Plankton: The Movie, Karen has finally had enough of Plankton’s never-ending evil failures – so she takes matters into her own hands to achieve true world dominance. This unexpected shift forces Plankton on a journey of self-discovery, with none other than SpongeBob by his side as an unlikely companion and moral compass.
Review
This movie is incredibly self-aware and leans heavily into its meta humor, making it a fun watch for both kids and longtime SpongeBob fans. As the title suggests, the spotlight is firmly on Plankton and Karen, with Spongebob being also there but other characters like Squidward and Patrick are really taking a backseat.
One of the standout elements is the film’s creative animation choices. Some things like flashbacks are presented in different art styles, which adds a nostalgic touch and enhances the visual storytelling. Fans of the SpongeBob franchise will also appreciate the throwbacks to older movies and classic episodes, making it a love letter to the series in many ways.
Surprisingly, the movie includes more musical performances than expected. While they might not be something I’d personally stream on repeat, they fit well within the film’s fun, family-friendly tone.
Overall, Plankton: The Movie is an entertaining and visually dynamic addition to the SpongeBob universe. It embraces nostalgia, experiments with style, and delivers plenty of laughs – making it a solid watch for fans of all ages.
